Fall 6-Cycle runs from September 30th through November 4th
6-Cycle is a character and bike building program that empowers teenagers to rebuild a bicycle with the help of a Village Wrench mentor mechanic. During the six week session, mentors work with the teens to cover every part on their bikes, from bottom brackets to derailleurs to re-wiring brake cables.
If you consider yourself to be proficient in bike repair and love investing in and caring for youth, click the button and complete the form to express interest in being a 6-Cycle Mentor Mechanic. All volunteer mentors must be cleared by a background check prior to working with youth.
Bonus! Work at the Village Wrench Bike Shop
Graduates also become eligible to apply for a paid part-time position in our workshop that focuses on job-skill and mechanic training. Teens who are interested should consult the frequently asked questions below.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who can join 6-Cycle?
Students 8th-12th grade, both males and females. We are considering launching a pilot middle school session this summer.
How does the program work?
This is a character and bike maintenance course through Village Wrench. Each session begins with an open conversation based on one of six specifically chosen Kipp Character Traits (a system developed to help students foster character strengths that are essential for their own success and well-being). Following the conversation, each student works one-on-one with a mentor to learn how to build his/her very own bike step-by-step. After completion of the course, students take home the bikes they built as well as a helmet and lock.
When does 6-Cycle occur?
Two six-week sessions run on Monday and Wednesday nights mid-Spring and late Fall from 6:00-7:30 pm.
In the summer, we offer two 6-Cycle week-long camp sessions (June and July).
Where does the program take place?
Village Wrench Workshop
8 Lois Avenue
Greenville, SC 29611
Why do 6-Cycle?
Who doesn’t want to have fun, build character, and earn a bike?! This course is also a pre-requisite for getting a job at Village Wrench workshop. Positions for Summer 2019 will be available for eligible students in the spring course!
How do I sign up?
Parent and student need to fill out the online application, and a phone interview will follow. You should expect a call or email within a week of submission.
Anything else I need to know?
There is a $25 fee for the class. You get to keep the bike, and a small snack and necessary repair parts are provided. We encourage students to earn this money through saving or odd jobs. Scholarship is available; if you need it, be sure to note this on your application and followup during the phone interview. Students must provide their own transportation, and you may want to eat dinner before you come.
